The Australian Army and the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) demonstrated their latest combat weapons to Army officers and invited guests during Exercise CHONG JU at Puckapunyal, Victoria on Thursday, 23 August 2007.

Exercise CHONG JU forms a key part of the Army’s Combat Officer’s Advanced Course (COAC) at the Combined Arms Training Centre. COAC provides Army officers with essential tactical and technical training in the employment of weapons and support elements. These are the key skills required for current operations.

The live fire exercise simulated an attacked on multiple enemy positions and included the Army’s Abrams tanks, ASLAV and Bushmaster armoured vehicles, artillery, missiles, small arms, and RAAF F-111 aircraft.

The exercise was named after a battle in North Korea in October of 1950. The Third Battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment, led by Lieutenant Colonel Charles Green attacked and captured a large North Korean defensive line in a combined operation with tanks and artillery.

The explosion looks more like a 800lb ordinace from a F1-11 rather than 155 or 105 rounds.
